We're back!
It got hectic and we missed last week so this one is a little extra jam packed.
As always - got a good story or something that needs to be shared out? Let us know and let us help!

It is worth noting that these homicides are the 3rd and 4th of the year in South Richmond. Last year at this time there had been 17 lives lost.

An honor for the Playground Lady
Gilda Marie Hines, resident of Gordon Avenue and employee of the City of Richmond’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities for 29 years, might have the 2200 block of Gordon Avenue named in her honor. Mrs.Hines worked at Oak Grove Playground, Blackwell Community Center, and Fonticello Park and was known as “the Playground Lady”.
City Council’s Land Use, Housing and Transportation Standing Committee meets Tuesday, May 21, and will take this up, among other things.

Hickory Hill School to be nominated to National Register of Historic Places
The Commission of Architectural Review (CAR) will consider Hickory Hill School’s nomination to the National Register of Historic Places and inclusion in the Virginia Landmark Register at their next meeting on May 28.
The building, now home to the Hickory Hill Community Center, was built in 1938. It was the first brick school for African Americans in Chesterfield County during the segregation era. As early as 1869 a school for African American youth was at or near the site of the Hickory Hill School, including a later 1915 frame school and 1925 Rosenwald School.
