Can you help make Ernest Park come to life?
Work is underway make Ernest Park a reality, with new paths cut through the woods down to Grindall Creek. Southside ReLeaf is looking for volunteers to help move the project along. Open work days are scheduled for the 3rd Thursdays of September and October, and is a great opportunity for volunteer groups on other days. One of 5 new public parks in the works for South Richmond, Ernest Park is a 2 acre parcel just west of Richmond Highway near the border with Chesterfield County.
The first ever Granite Festival is this Saturday, September 14 from noon-7PM on the grounds of Huguenot High School.

- Willie Hilliard is running for 6th District City Council. READ OUR INTERVIEW.
- The Forest Hill Neighborhood Association will be hosting a Mayoral Forum on Tuesday, September 17 at 7PM with all 5 mayoral candidates.
- There is an "All Districts School Board Candidates Forum" set for Sept 23 at Huguenot.

SPORTS
- The RHSA Bulldogs kicked off the football season with their first win in 3 years, defeating crosstown rivals John Marshall 24-20.
- The #6 Huguenot Falcons opened their season with a resounding 53-13 victory over the visiting Eastern View High School Cyclones from Culpeper.
- The popular “Sorry Honey, I’ve Gotta Work Late” cyclocross series returns to Forest Hill Park this month with races on Tuesday September 10th, 17th, and 24th at 6PM.
BE CIVIC!
- There are several meetings on the North-South BRT meetings this month. Fun fact: construction is loosely planned for 2029.
- There is a public meeting to review concepts for the NEW Mayo Bridge. Anybody heard if there is talk of a new name for a new bridge?
- Manchester Alliance meets this Thursday 6-7PM at Benchtop. Happy Hour starts at 4PM if that's how you roll.
CRIME
- Walter Anariva Ramos was shot to death on the 1700 block of Broad Rock Boulevard this past Saturday. This is the 11th homicide in South Richmond this year; last year at this time there had been 22.
- The Locker Room on Forest Hill Avenue was broken into and they've got clear video of the guy.
